President Douglas Mwonzora today presided over the First Sitting of his Shadow Cabinet at the Morgan Tsvangirai House in Harare. Strict COVID 19 protocols were observed.

The meeting resolved that the Shadow Ministers must offer alternative solutions to the current myriad of Zimbabwean problems.

It further emphasized the need for following party policies during the crafting of alternative solutions. In that regard, it was resolved that a special workshop will shortly be held for the Shadow Ministers, with a specific focus on their capacity building, statecraft and diplomacy.

Each Shadow Minister is expected to present a functional work plan with clear and measurable benchmarks. It was reiterated that the work plan must be in line with a similar strategy that was adopted by the Party during the Government of National Unity.

Furthermore, the meeting resolved that it will approach the government for access to information on government activities in order for the Shadow Ministers to work efficiently.

The Party has set up a fundraising team to come up with resources for the capacitation of the Shadow Cabinet.

In addition, the meeting noted that from today the Zimbabwe Government can withdraw almost US$1 billion from the International Monetary Fund as allocation of its Special Drawing Rights. This is a welcome development.

However, this money must be used prudently and in a transparent manner. The Shadow Cabinet emphasized that the money must be used to benefit the marginalized through social protection programs, infrastructure development to create employment, uplifting small and medium enterprises, strengthening of our health delivery system and provision of irrigation equipment and water in drier regions of the country, among other uses.

In view of the current COVID pandemic, priority should be given to massive investment into e-learning which must be accelerated and be made at every school in Zimbabwe.

The Shadow Cabinet took note of the inauguration of Zambian President-Elect Hakainde Hichilema today in Lusaka and further wished him well during his term in office.

On a sad note, The Shadow Cabinet was shocked to hear of the passing of the legendary George "Mastermind" Shaya.

The Mastermind' was a record-breaking five-time Soccer Star of the Year winner and his record still stands.
