Chitungwiza And Harare Council Nurses Now Paid Through SSB

27 July 2021

The Cabinet has announced that nurses at Chitungwiza Munifacility ad Harare City Council have been placed under the Public Service Commission and will be paid through Salaries Service Bureau (SSB). The development was announced by Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services minister, Senator Monica Mutsvangwa during this Tuesday's Post-Cabinet briefing in Harare. Said Mutsvangwa:
Following the failure by Chitungwiza Municipality and Harare Council to pay nurses resulting in reduction in service delivery, Cabinet has directed that nursing staff in the two municipalities be placed under the Public Service Commission & be paid through SSB. Risk allowances for the affected workers will also be paid. Further, Cabinet tasked the Minister of Finance to ensure the municipalities account fully for the resources that they were allocated for Covid19 response.
The two local authorities have witnessed mass desertion of health caregivers who cited poor remuneration and potential exposure to the Coronavirus. In recent years, health workers have also been embarking on protests to push authorities to address their grievances. In 2019, self-trained Mbare midwife, Mbuya Esther Zinyoyo-Gwena made headlines after delivering 250 babies in 2 weeks during the famous nurses’ strike at Harare health facilities. More: Pindula News
